Dorsey, Jimmy (birth name was James Francis Dorsey)
Born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania 2/29/1904; died 6/12/1957 of cancer in New York City. Studied the cornet under his father. Saxophonist with bands including the California Ramblers; Paul Whiteman; Red Nichols. With his brother Tommy Dorsey, formed the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra (1933-1935), then he led his own Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra (1935-1953). He joined brother Tommy Dorcey's band in 1953. When borther Tommy died, Jimmy took over the band until he died himself.

Featured on his own radio programs on Mutual (1939); NBC-BLUE (1939-1940). Host of Dorsey Drive on NBC-Radio (1946); The Jimmy Dorsey Show on CBS-Radio (1950). Co-host with Tommy Dorsey on Those Fabulous Dorseys for CBS-Radio (1953-1955). Co-host with Tommy Dorcey on Stage Show on CBS-TV (1954- 1956).
