My favorite actress of that period . A good actress and very professional. I respect and admire her dedication to improving herself and her ability to recreate herself with each decade . Unfortunately her republican has been sullied by her daughters book . Many Hollywood children have since written books on their famous patents but Crawford daughter was the first and I think that's why she is perceived negatively today . She was a dedicated professional and loyal to her friends and fans.

With every decade she changed. Did she go overboard punishing her children, probably. But that's how it was done back then, we all got the belt back then.

JOAN CRAWFORD captured my attention when I was a child of about 9, I saw "Johnny Guitar" original run and have been memorized by MISS CRAWFORD every since she was wonderful in "Night Gallery" and on "Zane Grey Theatre". It's a shame that she didn't get nominated for '" What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?" she gave a great performance with out excess makeup to help her performance

Born on March 23, 1905, in San Antonio, Texas, Joan Crawford began dancing at a young age, and went on to act in dozens of films. She was one of Hollywood's top stars of the 1930s, earning an Oscar for her lead role in 1945's Mildred Pierce.

In 1959, upon the death of her husband Alfred Steele, CEO of the Pepsi-Cola Company, she refused to give up her seat on the board of directors until her forced retirement in 1973. She earned $60,000 per year as a board member and was a tireless supporter of the product, demanding that it receive prominent placement in her films, and traveled extensively as a goodwill ambassador for the company.

She and Bette Davis were cast in Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964) by Robert Aldrich in the hope of repeating the success of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962). Bette got a producers credit and conspired to make things difficult for Joan who eventually pretended to be too ill to work causing production to be delayed resulting in her being dropped and replaced by Olivia de Havilland. Joan only discovered the news on the radio after it had been leaked to the press, allegedly by Bette. The Disneyland attraction "It's A Small World" was donated to the famed theme-park courtesy of Joan. During the 1964 World's Fair, Joan, who at the time was member of the board of directors of Pepsi Cola, approached Walt Disney with the suggestion to create a ride dedicated to the children of the world. The musical boat ride was a smash hit and once the fair ended "It's A Small World" was transferred in its entirety to Disneyland and was officially reopened to park guests on May 28, 1966, with Crawford in attendance. She died on May 10, 1977, in New York City.

Crawford (1905 ~ 1977) was one of the biggest stars of the 1930s and one of the most popular with audiences. She was one of the three queens at MGM (along with Greta Garbo and Norma Shearer) and was perhaps, the most photographed of any star during that decade. She set fashion trends for the public and along with costume designer Adrian - shoulder pads were born. Joan remained a "star" for more than a half century, beginning in the silent era in 1925. Transitional silent films that helped secure her stardom included "The Unknown" (1927) opposite Lon Chaney and "Our Dancing Daughters" (1928) that made her a superstar. Crawford was one of the top ten box office stars for several consecutive years during the thirties and made eight films with the King of Hollywood - Clark Gable - the best being "Dance, Fools, Dance" (1931), "Possessed" (31), "Dancing Lady" (33), "Chained" (34) and "Strange Cargo" (made in '39, but released in 1940).

(The other stars were Greta Garbo, John and Lionel Barrymore, Wallace Beery, Lewis Stone and Jean Hersholt) She received some of the best reviews, some saying she surpassed Garbo with a more natural performance. Her other films from the 1930s included: "Paid" (1930), "Letty Lynton" (32), "Rain" (32), "Sadie McKee" (34), "Forsaking All Others" (34), "I Live My Life" (35), "Love On The Run" (36), "The Last Of Mrs. Cheyney" (37), "The Bride Wore Red" (37), "Mannequin" (38), "The Shining Hour" (38) and another all-star classic - "The Women" (39). Joan played her first all-out bitch and basically stole the film with Rosalind Russell coming in a close second.
