Spoiler : Gielgud, John (Sir Arthur John Gielgud) Born in London, England 4/14/1904; died 5/21/2000 at his home west of London in Aylesbury, England. Attended Lady Benson's school, then won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Gielgud made his professional stage debut at age seventeen in Henry V at the Old Vic in London, and played his first Romeo role in 1924. Screen debut in Who Is The Man? (1924). Beginning in 1930 Gielgud played Hamlet for the first time, then went on to play the role over 500 times during his career. Academy Award for playing the butler in Arthur (1981). 3/4/1951 he was a guest star on the special CBS-Radio ninety minute production of Hamlet, presented on The Theatre Guild On The Air sponsored by RCA and United States Steel. Holmes on Sherlock Holmes, a BBC program produced and aired on the BBC in 1954. Holmes was broadcast on the NBC and ABC Radio Networks (1955-1956).
