Spoiler : Howard, John (birth name was John R. Cox, Jr.) Born in Cleveland, Ohio 4/14/1913; died 2/19/1995 of a heart attack at his Santa Rosa, California home. Married to Berlin State Opera soloist Eva Ralf (?-1995 his death). Graduated from Cleveland's Western Reserve University, where the acting bug bit him. Screen debut billed as John Cox in a bit role in 1935's, One Hour Late. Bulldog Drummond in the movie series during the 1930's. Last movie was playing Warden J. Johnson in Capone (1975). Served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, as the executive officer of the USS YMS-24, a minesweeper. During the invasion of France, the ship was severely damaged by a mine that killed the ship's captain. Howard took command of the ship, fought to save it and his crew, even jumped overboard to save a wounded sailor and was awarded a Navy Cross for his acts.
