Spoiler : Carson, Johnny (birth name was John William Carson) Born in Corning, Iowa 10/23/1925; died 1/23/2005 of emphysema at his home in Malibu, California. Married and divorced to Jody 'Joan' Morrill Wolcott (1949-1963); Joanne Copeland (1963-1972); Joanna Holland (1972-1985); Alexis Maas (1987-2005 his death). Carson was raised in Norfolk, Nebraska, where he entertained folk with his magic act, he called "The Great Carsoni." He served in the US Navy during WWII (1943-1946), aboard the Pennsylvania, which was torpedoed in August of 1945, killing 20 of his crew mates. After WWII, he attended the University of Nebraska.

Spoiler : His radio career began as an announcer for KFAB-Lincoln, Nebraska, then WOW-Radio reading commercials and writing comedy, then began his television career as host of Squirrel's Nest on the first TV station in Omaha (1948). In 1950, he moved to KNXT-Los Angeles as a radio announcer, where he was star of Carson's Cellar. Carson became a comedy writer for The Red Skelton Show on NBC-TV (1951-1953).

From 1962 to 1972, the show was telecast from New York, then Hollywood afterwards. Substitute host for The Sammy Davis Jr. Show on NBC- TV (1966). Emmy Awards for the Tonight Show in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1992. Won the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Governor's Award in 1980, a George Foster Peabody Award in 1986. Inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1987.
