Green, Johnny (birth name was John Waldo Green)
Born in New York City 10/10/1908; died 5/15/1989 of a pulmonary edema in Beverly Hills, California. He had suffered a stroke in 1987, and remained in ill healt until his death. Married and divorced from actress Betty Furness (1937-?); MGM starlet Bunny Waters (1944-1989 his death). Band leader and composer that wrote tunes including Body and Soul; Out Of Nowhere; I Cover The Waterfront. Pianist and arranger with Guy Lombardo's Royal Canadians (1927); Paul Whiteman (1932). CBS-Radio staff music/director (1933-1940). Staff conductor-composer for MGM Pictures (1942-1946), general music director and executive in charge of music for MGM Pictures (1949-58). Nominated for 14 Oscars, winner of four for Easter Parade, West Side Story, Oliver and An American In Paris.
