Roventini, Johnny (birth name was John Louis Roventini)
Born in Brooklyn, New York 8/15/1910; died 11/30/1998 of complications from a facial infection at a Suffern, New York hospital. Never married. A pituitary gland disorder halted his growth, leaving him with a twelve-year-old's body and voice. This 43" tall midget was promoted by the New Yorker Hotel as, "the smallest bellboy in the world."
Advertising agent Milton Biow gave Roventini a dollar to locate Philip Morris, and Johnny went through the hotel shouting, "Call for Phil-lip Morrraaaiiss." In 1933 Roventini began a lifetime career as the living trademark for Philip Morris cigarettes, and provided his famous call for the companies cigarette commericals on radio and television through the early 1950's. His picture was on all Philip Morris' advertising items and he made personal appearances on behalf of the cigarettes.
