A friend once asked us, “Why is it that you’re so fond of Judy Garland, but you’re not so crazy about Barbra Streisand?” That’s an easy one for us: With Ms. Streisand (with all due respect), it’s all about her pipes. With Ms. Garland, it’s all about her heart.

Mike, I totally agree. The enduring legacy of Judy Garland is that she poured her whole heart and her whole soul into everything she did. To watch her performances, and to hear her sing with pitch-perfection, that uniquely interpretive phrasing and lilt to her voice, one could see she indeed had a special anointing from God for those times of public performance -- the divine spark -- how such a tiny little teen, then tiny little lady (only 4'11") could belt out those torch songs -- and the next second, turn a subdued, sensitive rendering to an old favorite -- what a truly remarkable human being. I have often wondered about her faith - there is a touching letter she wrote to God, in 1958 (https://thejudygarlandexperience.blogspot.com/2017/02/blog-post.html), in which I realized, perhaps for the first time -- she was just like us all -- in her questioning, in her asking for God's strength, in her knowing Who the author and finisher of her faith was -- and the One that breathed into her the empowered breaths she sang out to us all -- as only Judy can.
