He attended Oxford University, then graudated with a degree in education from Temple University in 1943, then studied voice at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music. Served in the Army Air Corp during WWII, singing and acting in USO shows. Darryl F. Zanuck saw him performing in the 1943 Broadway play, "Wing Victory," offering him a minor role in the 1944 screen version of the play. Screen debut playing Sven Holstrom in The Farmer's Daughter (1947). Last feature movie was playing Marvin Bates in And Justice for All (1979).
