Manning, Knox (birth name was Charles Knox Manning)
Born in Worchester, Massachusetts 1/17/1904; died 8/26/1980 at The Motion Picture and Television Country House in Woodland Hills, California, where he had been residing since a 1979 auto accident that severly injured him, and killed his wife (Annette Whiting) whom he had been married to since 1933. Educated at Allen Military Academy and The University of Vermont, then began his career on stage. He made his radio debut in 1930 on WORC-Worchester, which led to his announcing career on radio and television.

Announcer for radio programs including also newscaster Headlines on Parade (1937-1939); Melody And Madness on CBS (1939); also commercial announcer for Sherlock Holmes on NBC (1939-1943). Host and narrator for the syndicated radio program, So The Story Goes (1945-1946).
After moving to Los Angeles in the late 1930s, Manning was a narrator for many movies including Mandrake the Magician (1939); Hitler Lives (1945); The Great Adventures of Captain Kidd (1953). He also appeared in many movies (mostly as radio announcer) including Harmon of Michigan (1941); Meet John Doe (1941); Hit Parade of 1947 (1947); Invasion USA (1952). Manning was the announcer that introduced then vice president candidate Richard Nixon's "Checkers" speech on 9/23/1952. Manning served as president of AFRA (American Federation of Radio Artists), now known as AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) beginning in 1952.
