Born in Los Angeles, California 10/3/1898; died 7/5/1969 of emphysema in Santa Monica, California. Brother of movie director Ray McCarey. Married to Stella Martin (?-?). McCarey was a prizefighter, miner, lawyer and songwriter that entered movies (1918). Became a movie producer/director with The Virgin Of Stamboul in 1920. One of McCarey's early ideas was forming the comedy team of Laurel and Hardy, and he produced their movie shorts (1926-1929). Academy Awards for The Awful Truth (1937), Going My Way (1944). Story judge on This Is My Story for CBS-Radio (1944-1945).
