Loved Leslie Howard. He was not only a great actor but an excellent director. The plane he was flying in was shot down by the Germans during WWII. Some of my favorite films The Scarlet Pimpernel, Gone with the Wind and The Petrified Forest.

Good actor and hollywood stud. Shot down and kiled in WW2 doing morale work for England. His son Ronald Howard looked a great deal like him. Ronald starred in TV series "Sherlock Holmes" and "Cowboy in Africa" with chuck connors. This is photo of Ronald Howard.

Wonderful actor! All you ever heard over here was about him being Ashley in you-know-what. I was never super impressed with that film OR Leslie! After 'Pygmalion' and 'of Human Bondage', I am an eternal fan! He WAS the Henry HIggins we see Rex Harrison honoring in 'My Fair Lady'.

Howard, Leslie (birth name was Leslie Strainer) Born in London, England 4/3/1893; died 6/1/1943 when the airplane he was a passenger in was shot down. German fighters attacked the aircraft while it was enroute from Portugal to England, thinking Winston Churchill was aboard the craft. Howard attended Dulwich School, but left to serve in World War One. He began acting as thearapy for shell shock that he suffered from serving in WWI. He came to America in 1920.

Leslie Horowitz. reportedly loved smoking cigars and cursed like a sailor. The plane on which he was apassenger departed Lisbon and was shot down by the Nazis. this occurred shortly after the Casablanca conference, and there may have been a Churchill double on board.
