Pons, Lily (birth name was Alice Josephine Pons) Born in Draguignan on the French Rivera (Cannes) 4/12/1904 (others say she was born in 1895 and 1906); died 2/13/1976 of pancreatic cancer in Dallas, Texas. Married and divorced to August Mesritz (?-?); Andre Kostelanetz (1938-1958). At age 13, Pons was enrolled at the Paris Conservatoire as a piano student, where she became a singer. She came to America in 1931 to become a Metropolitan Opera star. She became an American Citizen in 1940.

Pons and husband Kostelanetz became the highest-paid musical duets in history. She continued to perform until she retired in 1964, but returned for a final concert performance in 1972.
