Del Castillo 04.02.1893 - 07.06.1992 (99 years old)
Lloyd Del Castillo was born on April 2, 1893, in Boston, Massachusetts. He started early as a theater organist. The WWI draft records show that in 1917 he was employed at the Bijou Theater in Springfield, Massachusetts. He is known to have established a school for theater organists in Boston.
Lloyd was educated at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School in Cambridge MA. In 1914 he graduated Cum Laude from Harvard where he started the Harvard Musical Review as well as conducted Harvard's orchestra. He was married to Phyllis Winkler who was born in Chicopee Falls.
Through the years, Del Castillo provided music for many productions, including Strange Wills and Stars Over Hollywood, as well as scoring some of the music for the “Mr. Magoo” cartoons. Highlights of his career include the conducting of his own works of the Boston Pops Orchestra. In addition, he wrote a widely acclaimed (and humorous) column for the magazine of the American Organ Society, under the penname of Dinny Timmons. He performed in concert regularly until shortly before his death. He would pass away on July 6, 1992 at the age of 99.
