Spoiler : Raye, Martha (birth name was Margaret Theresa Yvonne Reed) Born in Butte, Montana 8/27/1916; died 10/19/1994 in Los Angeles, California after being ill for several years following a 1989 stroke that left her with circulation problems leading to amputation of her left leg below the knee. Raye received a full military funeral at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina for her many years of U.S.O. troop entertaining (WWII, Korea, and Vietnam).

Spoiler : Raye was the daughter of the vaudeville team of Reed and Hooper. She was married and divorced six times including make-up man Buddy Westmore (1937); band leader David Rose (?-?); hotelier Neal Lang (?-?); dancer Nick Condos (?-?); dancer Edward Thomas Begley (?-?); her bodyguard, ex-policeman Robert O'Shea (?-?); was single at the time of her death.

Spoiler : At age three was on stage with parents in vaudeville. At age fifteen was featured in Earl Carroll's Sketch Book and Lew Brown's Calling All Stars. Singer-comedian with the Paul Ash orchestra. Screen debut in Bing Crosby's Rhythm On The Range 1936. The movie Four Jills In A Jeep was based on her U.S.O. tours during WWII. Former U.S. President Nixon made Raye the first and only woman ever authorized to wear the uniform of the U.S. Army Green Berets. Her nickname, "Maggie of the boondocks" was for her efforts of entertaining troops in Vietnam where she was wounded once. She recieved a special citation from General Westmoreland for working 48 hours non-stop helping medics near the Vietnam DMZ in 1968.

Raye was Al Jolson's co-star on The Lifebouy Program for CBS-Radio (1936-1939), and continued as a regular performer when the program title was changed to The Tuesday Night Party after Al Jolson left in 1939.
