Block, Martin Born in Los Angeles, California 2/3/1903; died 9/19/1967 in New York. Block quit school at age fourteen to be a salesman. By 1935 was an announcer at radio station WNEW-New York. Credited with being one of the first radio disk- jockeys. Creator and host of The Make Believe Ballroom on WNEW-New York (1935- 1954). Announcer for many NBC-Radio programs including (one of several) on Pepper Young's Family during the 30's and The Chesterfield Supper Club during the middle 40's. Announcer for The Perry Como Show on NBC-TV (1948-1950). Host of The Martin Block Show on ABC-Radio (1954-1961) and ABC-TV (1956-1957). Was a 1948 Radio Mirror Award winner for being the favorite disk jockey. Host of Martin Block's Hall Of Fame on radio station WOR-New York (1961-1967).
