Spoiler : The great Mary Pickford (1892 - 1979) was known as "America's Sweetheart", "Little Mary" and the "Girl with the Curls". She was one of the Canadian pioneers in early Hollywood and a significant figure in the development of film acting. Pickford was also one of the earliest stars to be billed under her name (rather than unbilled), and was one of the most popular actresses of the 10s and 20s, earning the nickname "Queen of the Movies".

Spoiler : I LOVE her! She never fails to put a smile on my face and her silents are some of the most accessible to new fans because they were so well made. And I know I'm biased but I think she was one of the most purely beautiful actresses ever.

Griffith early on and eventually helped form United Artists. She worked occasionally as producer (and sometimes writer) and was one of the original 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. She was nicknamed 'America's Sweetheart' and 'Little Mary' and early in her career (before she was a household name) 'The Girl With The Curls'. She won the Best Actress Oscar for 1929's "Coquette". She was married to actor Douglas Fairbanks (from 1920 to '36) and they held lavish parties at their residence called Pickfair (a combination of their last names). She was at one time the stepmother to Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. (and by his marriage, also Joan Crawford). She was best friends with fellow stars Lillian and Dorothy Gish. She later married actor Charles 'Buddy' Rogers in '37. She was one of the most popular stars during the silent era, but her career declined in the sound era.
