Geldray, Max (birth name was Max van Gelder)
Born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands 2/12/1916; died 10/5/2004 following a long illness at his home in Palm Springs, California. Geldray was a Jazz harmonica player that began his career in the early 1930s leading Max Geldray and His Mouth-Accordeon Band. He joined the Ray Ventura Orchestra in Paris, then Django Reinhardt's jazz group. During WWII, he went to England where he was a popular performer on BBC-Radio.

He joined the Goons in 1951 on their show called Crazy People which became The Goon Show on BBC-Radio in November of 1952. He played Conks on the program, and remained with the program until it went off the air in 1960. Member of cast on BBC-TV shows including The Idiot Weekly, Price 2d (1956); A Show Called Fred (1956); Son of Fred (1956). Following the end of Goons, he moved to California where he continued to perform until his death.
