Born in Tekoa, Washington 2/27/1907; died 12/12/1951 in Poughkeepsie, New York. Married and divorced to band leader Red Norvo (1930-1942). Nicknamed radio's "Rockin' Chair Lady." Began her career as a singer in Paul Whiteman's Rhythm Boys (1929). Featured vocalist on The Old Gold Program (1929-1930); Plantation Echoes for NBC-BLUE (1934-1935); The Camel Caravan (1939-1940); Music Till Midnight on CBS (1944-1945). Host of The Mildred Bailey Revue on CBS-Radio (1944- 1945).
