Born in Kerts, Russia 6/19/1892; died 4/10/1970 of cancer in New York. Graduated from St Petersburg (Leningrad) Conservatory in 1910. He performed the world over before moving to America in 1922. He was concert-master, conductor and solo violinist with the San Francisco Symphony and The New York Philharmonic orchestras.

Orchestar conductor on The Standard School Broadcast for NBC-Radio (1929-1930, 1936 and 1939). He was a violin soloist on The General Motors Concerts for NBC-Radio (1929-1937). Piastro is really remembered for being the conductor of The Longines Symphonette on Festival of Song for CBS-Radio (1948-1949), and The Longines Symphonette for CBS-Radio (1949-1957).
