Myrna Loy 1905 To 1993 An amazing actress who's career spanned over 60 years. Myrna Loy was as good as they came. She worked with every leading man of her time and from comedy to drama she had it all. *One of a handful of great movie stars never nominated for an acting Oscar, she received an honorary Academy Award in 1991 *Recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center in 1988. Trivia: In 1936 Myrna was named Queen of the Movies and Clark Gable King in a national poll, winning a crown of tin and purple velvet. in her autobiography, she says that she did not get on with Gable in her earlier films with him. However, in her later films he developed a respect for Loy and they became good friends. Trivia: Was supposedly the favorite star of famed outlaw John Dillinger. He came out of hiding to see Manhattan Melodrama (1934), in which she starred, and was gunned down by police upon leaving the theater. Trivia: Turned down the role of Ellie Andrews in It Happened One Night (1934). Claudette Colbert was given the part and went on to win the Best Actress Oscar for her performance. Personal Quote: [Challenging MGM bosses in the 1930s] Why does every black person in the movies have to play a servant? How about a black person walking up the steps of a courthouse carrying a briefcase? (Way ahead of her time)

If I had to choose, probably my all-time favorite actress; just elegant, smart, adorable and always chic. That long black evening gown she wore in Wife vs Secretary is my all-time favorite dress in a movie. Even in her later years, she was always the Myrna Loy we loved and admired for her accomplishments on screen and certainly off screen.

MYRNA LOY (1905 ~ 1993) Loy was a popular favorite among audiences of the 1930s and 1940s and was considered "the perfect wife" - especially as Nora Charles in the series of Thin Man movies opposite William Powell. She also appeared in seven films with Clark Gable. She had a long career, beginning in the silent era, usually playing an exotic type, until major stardom came in 1934 with "The Thin Man". Other films included: "Manhattan Melodrama" (34), "The Great Ziegfeld" (36), "Libeled Lady" (36), "After The Thin Man" (36), "Test Pilot" (38), "Too Hot To Handle" (38), "The Best Years Of Our Lives" (46), "The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer" (47), "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" (48), "Cheaper By The Dozen" (50) and "Midnight Lace" (60). Myrna received an Honorary Academy Award in 1991. Loy passed in 1993 at age 88.
