Character actor Nigel Bruce was born today 2-4 in 1895. He's best known for his role as Dr. Watson in a series of 30s and 40s Sherlock Holmes films and in the radio series The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Bruce was a member of the resident English colony in Hollywood which included David Niven, C. Aubrey Smith, Boris Karloff, Arthur Treacher, Joan Fontaine, Ronald Coleman and others. Some of the non Sherlock Holmes films Nigel Bruce appeared in during the 40s include Suspicion, Rebecca, Lillian Russell, Lassie Come Home, Roxie Hart, The Corn Is Green, Son of Lassie and The Two Mrs. Carrolls.
