Norma Shearer was a Canadian-American actress and Hollywood star from 1925 through 1942. Her early films cast her as a spunky ingenue, but in the pre-Code film era, she played sexually liberated women. She excelled in drama, comedy, and period roles. She gave well-received performances in adaptations of Noël Coward, Eugene O'Neill, and William Shakespeare. She was the first person to be nominated five times for an Academy Award for acting, winning Best Actress for her performance in the 1930 film The Divorcee.

Norma Shearer (1902 - 1983) was a Canadian actress who was one of the Hollywood greats in the 1920s and 1930s. Starting as a film extra in 1920, Shearer won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in The Divorcee (1930). She was nominated the same year for her role in Their Own Desire, in 1931 for her role in A Free Soul, in 1934 for The Barretts of Wimpole Street, in 1936 for Romeo and Juliet, and in 1938 for Marie Antoinette.

NORMA SHEARER (1902 ~ 1983) Shearer won the Best Actress Oscar for "The Divorcee" (1930) and was married to MGM production chief Irving Thalberg and therefore was first choice for most film roles at the studio. She was also Oscar nominated for: "A Free Soul" (31), "The Barretts Of Wimpole Street" (34), "Romeo and Juliet" (36) and "Marie Antoinette" (38). Her other films included: "He Who Gets Slapped" (24), "The Student Prince In Old Heidelberg" (27), "The Trial Of Mary Dugan" (29), "Smilin' Through" (32), "Strange Interlude" (32), "Idiot's Delight" (39) and "The Women" (39). Norma retired from films in 1942 after a couple of unsuccessful films. She passed in 1983 at age 80.
