Brilliant but paranoid. One of the greatest pianists in the world. He once said "There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have crossed that line".

As clever and witty a man as ever inhabited show business. In a sketch on the Jack Benny TV show Benny recounts some experiences with a annoying waiter and says, I've never run into such an insolent person. Oscar replies, Jack, You've hurt me deeply. And here is a clip from late in Levant's life. I love his answer about what he does for exercise.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 12/27/1906; died 8/14/1972 of a heart attack in Beverly Hills, California. Married and divorced to dancer Barbara Smith (?-1932); actress June Gale (1939-1972 his death). Studied music (piano) under the direction of Sigismund Stojowski; composition with Arnold Schoenberg (1935-1937). Once was a pianist with the Rudy Wiedoeft band.

Levant was the music expert panelist on Information Please for NBC-Radio (1938-1943). Co-star with Al Jolson on The Kraft Music Hall for NBC-Radio (1947-1949).
