He studied art at the university that would later be known as Oregon State, playing in the band, and loved to make funny voices. Best known as one of the best voice actors Walt Disney ever had (he was the voice of Goofy) he had an impressive career on Old Time Radio. He was heard on Magic Key, Eddie Cantor, Jack Benny, Chase & Sanborn, Mickey Mouse Theater of the Air, Lux, Command Performance, Escape, Our Miss Brooks, Johnny Dollar, Screen Directors' Playhouse, Amos 'n' Andy, the Great Gildersleeve, Phil Harris-Alice Faye, Fibber McGee and Molly, and others. In the late 1940s he became the first voice of Bozo the Clown on 78 RPM records by Capitol. His son Vance Colvig (Vance DeBar Colvig, Jr.) was Bozo the Clown on the local Los Angeles version of the Bozo cartoon show (KTLA) in the early 1960s. Pinto would also sometimes be listed as Vance Colvig.
