Spoiler : Happy birthday, Ralph Richardson! The English actor was colleagues with the likes of John Gielgud and Laurence Olivier, who dominated the British stage of the mid-20th century. Although his film career was illustrious he is also known for his role as Dr. Watson, alongside his friend John Gielgud as Sherlock Holmes, in the radio adaptation of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

Richardson started out to be landscape painter like his father, but turned to acting. Stage debut in Brighton, England (1921), then joined the Old Vic (1930). On Broadway as Mercutio in Romeo And Juliet (1935). On screen in The Ghoul (1933). Doctor Watson on Sherlock Holmes which was produced and broadcast in 1954 by the British Broadcasting Company (BBC). The series was broadcast on NBC-Radio (1955-1956). Guest star on television programs including Hedda Gabler for CBS (1963); David Copperfield for NBC (1970); Home for PBS (1971); Hallmark Hall Of Fame for CBS (1981).
