Noble, Ray (birth name was Raymond S. Noble)
Born in Brighton, England 12/17/1903); died 4/3/1978 of cancer in London, England. Son of the organist/composer Thomas Tertius Noble. Noble became a staff-arranger for the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) in 1929. Assembled the New Mayfair Orchestra for HMV records (RCA label in London). He came to America in 1933, and formed his orchestra which played for two years in The Rainbow Room atop New York's Rockefeller Center. Composer of tunes including The Very Thought of You; Cherokee; Goodnight Sweetheart.

The Ray Noble Orchestra provided music for radio programs including programs Refreshment Time on CBS (1935-1936); Burns And Allen on NBC (1937-1938); The Edgar Bergen/Charlie McCarthy Show on NBC and CBS (1939-1956). Composed The Cathy And Elliott Theme, used as the theme for On Stage on CBS-Radio (1953-1954).
