Born in New York City; died 3/23/2000 at age 83 following a brief illness at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Katz began his career as a stage manager at the Capital Theatre on Broadway. Following
his WWII service, Katz directed the NBC-Radio program, Navy Hour (?), then Katz joined MGM's WHN-New York Radio station as a program director, credited with creating a radio syndication division for original programming known as MGM Radio Attractions, which produced Maisie (1949-1953); Woman of the Year starring Bette Davis (1952). By the time Katz left WHN in 1960, he was co- director of the station.

Katz and Sandy Gallin formed a management and production business (1970- 1985). The team created and produced television programs including Donny and Marie on ABC (1976-1979); television specials including ones that starred Mac Davis, Paul Lynde, Dolly Parton, Cher and the Emmy Award winning special "Sold Out" starring Lily Tomlin and Kate Smith, 1979 Emmy Award winning made-for-television-movie, The Miracle Worker on NBC. During the early 1980's the team turned to producing television movies including Choices of the Heart, Family Secrets, Splendor in the Grass and Without Her Concent. Herman Rush and Katz became partners in 1991, producing 13 episodes of "The Original Amateur Hour" for the Family Channel.
