Spoiler : Happy birthday to Raymond Massey, born on August 30, 1896.

Spoiler : A great actor and His daughter Anna was also a well-respected actor.

Spoiler : Topnotch actor. He became an American citizen, but was born in Canada, and was still a Canadian citizen when he played the title role on Broadway in "Abraham in Illinois", a role he played again in the film adaptation of the play. I note that his brother was Vincent Massey, the first Canadian-born Royal Governor General of Canada. You'll find a fine old concert hall in Toronto called Massey Hall, the Canadian equivalent of Carnegie Hall, named after Vincent Massey. Of course, I first became aware of him when I was I was 9 years old. He played Dr. Gillespie in the TV series "Doctor Kildare" starring Richard Chamberlain. One reason he landed the role of Lincoln was his height, 6'3". Lincoln was 6'4" tall and they needed an actor who was taller than everyone else on stage because a short Lincoln wouldn't have been convincing, and, of course, Raymond Massey had the acting ability required, too.

Married and divorced Peggy Fremantle (?-?); Adrianne Allen (?-?); Dorothy Ludington Whitney (?-?). Father of actors Anna and Daniel Massey. Educated at Oxford University. Artillery Officer with the British Army during WWI. After being wounded in 1915, he became an instructor for the Canadian Army. Came to America as an aide with the British war mission to Washington, D.C. After the war appeared on stage and screen in England, then New York stage. Screen debut as Sherlock Holmes in The Speckled Band (1931). During WWII served as an officer in the Canadian Army (1942). He became an American citizen in 1944. Star of The Doctor Fights on CBS-Radio (1944). Host of The Harvest Of Stars on NBC-Radio (1945- 1946).

Doctor Gillespie on Dr. Kildare for NBC-TV (1961-1966). Massey penned two autobiographies, "When I Was Young" in 1976, and "A Hundred Lives" in 1979.
