Born in Blue Lick Springs, Kentucky 6/17/1910; died 9/19/1968 of an acute pulmonary edema in Fort Wayne, Indiana while on tour with the Grand Ole Opry. On screen in Sing A Song, For Heaven's Sake (1966). Included in his hit songs were "Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy."

Foley debuted on radio in the early 1930's with his "Cumberland Ridge Runners" on The WLS Barndance (became The National Barndance). Featured on that show (1941-1944). Host of radio and television programs including the Grand Ole' Opry on NBC-Radio (1946-1953); The Red Foley Show on radio and television (1950-1951; 1957-1959); Ozark Jubilee on ABC (1954-1955); ABC-TV (1955- 1960). Uncle Cooter on Mr. Smith Goes To Washington on ABC-TV (1962-1963). Elected to the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1967.
