Benchley, Robert Charles Born in Worchester, Massachusetts 9/15/1889; died 11/21/1945 of a stroke in New York City. With his in-exact mustache, sly wag and burbling laugh was one of the warmest wits of his time. He began his career as a writer for the New York Tribune in 1916. His first book was Of All Things (1921).
