I saw him perform live once, and when he sang "Bo Jangles" you could have heard a pin drop. Nobody coughed, nobody moved, and it seemed as though nobody even breathed while he was singing. It was totally sensational, wonderful, and awesome.

This guy got a raw deal as far as birthdays go. I mean a day before your 16th birthday, BAM pearl harbor! No way did he have any birthday parties after that! It would be like being born 9/12/85. Your looking forward to your 16th birthday, then the day before your big day, 9/11 attacks! No way was that party going to happen. And forget any parties for the next 10 years, memories still too fresh. That was little Sammy's lot in life.

I came to appreciate his many talents watching him on TV when I was older. As a teenager listening to his Candy Man song -- that didn't showcase him well. Funny how that is.

I read his autobiography. He had a hard life. But his father and uncle's protected and loved him, and he had great friends who loved him and we're loyal. He was so, so talented.
