Born in Toronto, Canada 4/1/1917; died 10/30/1997 in Canada. Newman began his career as a graphic artist with the National Film Board of Canada. Producer of the Canadian WWII radio program, Canada Carries on (1944). Moved to England in 1954, and by 1959 was appointed head of the BBC television drama department.
Worked in the production of The Avengers, syndicated to the U.S.A. on ABC-TV (1966-1969). Credited with helping create the Doctor Who series in 1963, syndicated to the U.S.A. (1978-1989), the twenty-six part BBC serial adaption of John Galsworthy's series of novels, The Forsyte Saga, presented on NET (1969-1970).
