Spoiler : Ritter, Tex (birth name was Maurice Woodward Ritter) Born in (Panola County) Murvaul, Texas 1/12/1907; died 1/2/1974 of a heart attack in Nashville, Tennessee. Married to Dorothy Fay Thomas (1941-1974 his death). Father of deseased actor John Ritter. Ritter worked on his father's ranch as a cowboy, then attended Northwestern Law School and Texas University. He abandoned his law career for singing and acting.

Nickname was, "America's Most Beloved Cowboy." Ran for, and lost the election as a Tennessee Senator in 1970. Some sources credit Ritter with roles of Tex Mason and Diogenes Dodwaddle on Bobby Benson's Adventures for CBS-Radio during the early to middle 1930's. Regular performer on the syndicated television program Ranch Party (1958). One of the five rotating hosts of Five Star Revue for NBC-TV (1961). Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1964. Inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in 1980.
