Brothers Joe, Judd and Ted McMichael first formed a vocal group called The McMichaels. By 1926 the McMichael group was singing on WCCO-Minneaoplis, while still attending high school. In 1927 they were hired by bandleader Joe Haymes, who renamed their group to The Personality Trio. In 1930 they formed The Merry Macs quartet when they hired female singer, Cheri McKay. Over the years female singers with the quartet included Mary Lou Cook and Helen Carroll. The group's most popular hit tunes were Spurs That Jingle Jangle Jingle, Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition and Mairzy Doats.
