Dorsey, Tommy (birth name was Thomas Francis Dorsey) Born in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania 11/19/1905; died 11/26/1956 of choking while asleep in Greenwich, Connecticut. Dorsey began playing the trombone at age five. Formed The Wild Canaries band before forming a band with his brother, Jimmy (1933-1935); led the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra (1935-1956). Known as the, "sentimental gentleman of swing." The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra provided music for radio programs including The Jack Pearl Show on NBC (1936); On The Town for Mutual (1940-1941); Fame And Fortune on NBC-BLUE (1940-1941). Led his band, and was host of his own radio programs on CBS (1936); Raleigh-Kool Program on NBC-BLUE (1937-1939); NBC (1940); NBC-BLUE (1942); NBC (1942-1943); NBC (1945); Endorsed By Dorsey on Mutual (1946); Tommy Dorsey's Playshop on Mutual (1946); The Tommy Dorsey Show on Mutual (1946).

The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra made it's television debut on The Kate Smith Evening Hour for NBC during the 1951 to 1952 season. Co-host with Jimmy Dorcey for Those Fabulous Dorseys on CBS- Radio (1953-1955). Co-host with Jimmy Dorsey on Stage Show on CBS-TV (1954-1956).
