Brother of actress Frances Heflin. Married to Frances Neal (?-?). Father of actress Kate Heflin. Was a sailor before he appeared in the play Mr. Moneypenny, then on Broadway in End Of Summer (1936). Screen debut in A Woman Rebels (1936). Academy Award for Johnny Eager (1941). Last movie was the made-for-television movie, The Last Child (1971).
