Compton, Walter (birth name was Walter Knobeloch) Born in Charleston, South Carolina 10/9/1912; died 12/9/1959. Compton began his radio career in 1936. He was an announcer at WOL-Washington, WHN-New York Emcee for Double Or Nothing on Mutual-Radio (1940-1943). Anchor for DuMont-TV's first news show in 1947 (Walter Compton and The News). From the late 1940s to the late 1950s he was associated with television stations of WAAM-Baltimore and WTTV-Washington.
