There are so many great scenes with this fine actor but the one that makes me laugh is from The Searchers where Bond as the Texas Ranger reverend chews out John Wayne's son as the young lieutenant you can see the Duke smiling to himself

Ward Bond was one those classic character actor. He just added the right touch to each film he was in. He was in The Quiet Man and he was also the Narrator. Some of his other movies. The Searchers, Wagon Master and Fort Apache. He was in over 200 films.

Looking back, Ward Bond, Victor McLaglen and the other members of the John Ford stock company were an important part of growing up in post-war America, for me at least. They are like old friends, and their movies are like signposts in my life. I hesitate to say that they helped form the adult I became, but of course they did. I responded to them, often deeply, and I cannot imagine being the same person without them. They were far more than just entertainment.

Evidently took himself a little too seriously and some of the other actors laughed at him behind his back. He was in many ways the perfect working character actor. He brought a certain gravitis too his performances. As much as I love Bert the Cop, It's his performance in The Searchers that I think is my favourite. I also loved him on Wagon Train.
