Maugham, W. Somerset (William Somerset Maugham) Born in Paris, France 1/25/1874; died 12/16/1965 in Nice, France. Maugham began his career as a surgeon at the St. Thomas Hospital in London, England. His first novel was Lisa Of Lambeth in 1897. The Somerset Maugham Theater was on the CBS and NBC Radio Networks (1951). The program featured top stars of Hollywood and Broadway stars in adaptions of Maugham's stories.

Host of, and author of novels adapted to teleplays on, "Teller Of Tales," retitled to "The Somerset Maugham TV Theatre" after three telecasts. First on CBS as a half hour program (1950-1951), finishing on NBC as a hour pro- gram in 1951. The first teleplay on Robert Montgomery Presents for CBS-TV (1/30/1950) was an adaption of Maugham's, "The Letter." A String Of Beads was presented on CBS-TV's Schlitz Playhouse Of Stars in 1952.
