Spoiler : Herman, Woody (birth name was Woodrow Charles Herman) Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin 5/16/1913; died 10/29/1987 of congestive heart failure in Los Angeles, California. Married to Charlotte Neste (?-?). "The Woodchopper" and leader of several "Herman's Thundering Herds" was billed in vaudeville as the "Boy Wonder of the Clarinet" at age nine. Herman cut his first disk at age sixteen (Sentimental Gentleman From Georgia). Clarinet and sax player in various bands including Ishman Jones, Harry Sosnik, Gus Arnheim and Joey Lichter. Formed his first band, "The Band That Plays The Blues" in 1936.

Spoiler : Herman was heard on many remotes that were broadcast from the Roseland Ballroom on Mutual- Radio during the 1930's and 1940's. Featured on radio programs for Mutual (1942); CBS (1944) The Woody Herman Show on ABC-Radio (1945-1946); CBS (1947); ABC (1948). Guest star on many radio programs including Eddie Condon's Jazz Concerts for NBC-BLUE, (1944); The Electric Hour for CBS (1947).
