Young Mr. Desmond is framed for a murder. A dance hall girl uses the expression, "Twenty Three Skidoo" (inappropriate for a story set in the Yukon goldrush). Nearly everyone in Dawson had heard of Trigger Bill Desmond, the sharp-shooting star of the all American Wild West shows. But when Big Ben Diamond brought him to the Yukon to be the featured attraction at the music hall, the sour doughs were more than a little surprised at his appearance. He was short, even in cowboy boots. He was slight. He was 26, but he seemed to be about 19. He had light, curly hair, blue eyes, and was extremely polite to everybody he met... |
