In episode 296, 06-28-1941 (forced landing, rescued) the radio communications with the ground actually identifies the secret base where the plane has landed as AREA 51. I wonder if it is possible that that is the origin of the moniker for the Groom Lake facility. There is also a warehouse 16 mentioned in the same context but I don't know if that is significant in current flying saucer/area 51 lore. The conversation takes place 12 minutes and 15 seconds into the episode.

Do we have any fellow fans of the very exciting Jungle Jim series? I was always a big fan of the 1937 movie serial with Grant Withers and all the Johnny Weissmuller films are enjoyable too - but the radio version is best of all. Thrilling stories with great cliff hangers and some great acting - especially from Vicki Vola as the very Eve-Arden-ish sassy Shanghai Lil. Sure, there are the usual racial stereotypes of the time but it's high time we stop looking at these as racist - it was different era with different attitudes after all. One of my all time favourite radio shows.

This radio program was based on the popular comic strip that was created by Alex Raymond, the same fellow who created Flash Gordon. The strip appeared in Hearst newspapers. The Great White Hunter, Jungle Jim Bradley was played by Matt Crowley until 1938, then Gerald Mohr took over the role until it ended in 1954.
