Plot | : | + Sponsored by: Kellogg's Pep, Kellogg's Shredded Wheat (multiple premiums). The chairman of the American Veterans Committee speaks to listeners before the story begins on the subject of tolerance and brotherhood. He presents an award to "Superman" and Bud Collyer makes a speech of thanks. Sam Robbins has been wounded, but is rescued by a doctor, who was one of the mob of bigots. Sam and the doctor become trapped in a burning barn...surrounded by "armed men of hate!" Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings at a single bound! Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s SUPERMAN! Based on the comic created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1938. Superman, disguised on earth as Clark Kent, “leads a never-ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way”. In the storyline the true identity of Superman was closely guarded by the producers. If any of the peripheral characters discovered that Clark Kent was Superman they always ended up being killed of either by accident or by disaster. This situation was also mirrored in the real world. It wasn’t until 1946, six years into the run, that listeners discovered that Clayton Bud Collyer played the part of Superman. |
