Comic Jack Pearl took the name of an actual German Count, Baron Münchhausen, who was the subject of several unbelievably tall tales for a long running radio comedy during the 1930s. When his fantastic stories were challenged, Pearl would bring down the house by asking "Vas you dere, Sharlie?"
