Blondie was a radio sitcom based on Chic Young’s comic strip of the same name. Penny Singleton starred as Blondie Boopadoop, opposite Arthur Lake, who played her love interest Dagwood Bumstead. The radio version of the Blondie came after the immensely successful 1938 Blondie film which also starred Singleton and Lake.

Blondie is based on Chic Young's popular comic strip. After becoming a successful movie, Blondie continued to be a hit in its old time radio show form.

Blondie was originally created as a summer replacement for the Eddie Cantor Show. However, when the latter did not return after summer, its sponsor, Camel Cigarettes, decided to keep Blondie on-air. Click here to read more about Blondie

That TV show was my introduction to "Blondie" with Arthur Lake when I was 5 years old. Don't forget that Hal Peary of Gildersleve radio fame co-starred in this 1957 "Blondie" series as neighbor Herb Woodley.

This series was based on Chic Youngs comic strip that began in the 1920s. There was 28 movies and two TV programs based on the strip. All of the movies, the radio series and the first TV series starred Arthur Lake as Dagwood. Penny Singleton played Blondie in all of the movies, and shared the radio role over the years with Ann Rutherford, Alice White and Patricia Van Cleve.
