WENR (Chicago) is heard leaving the air for WLS, apparently a shared frequency. The first tune is, "The Weathermen." Fibber McGee & Molly was first broadcast in 1935 and ran in a variety of formats until the final broadcast in 1956. Jim and Marian Jordan played Fibber and his wife Molly in this hilarious domestic comedy. It was written and created by Don Quinn who had also written Smackout. The show made good use of running gags. Probably the best remembered is McGee’s junk-filled closet, which always crashed down on anyone that happened to open the door. Fibber is good, clean entertainment that despite being well over half a century old still has the ability to make you chuckle.

Love this show. My mom use to reference Fibers Closet a lot. Something about my room!! LOL!

I listen to a fair amount of old radio shows, but Fibber Mcgee is my favorite. While the most famous gag was the closet. Several others were used regularly. Fibber’s alliteration until he ran out of breath, the verbal sparring with the mayor, Doc Gamble, and Gildersleeve. I also enjoyed Marian Jordan‘s “Teeny” and “Taint funny Mcgee” in response to Fibber’s lame jokes. This became a popular catchphrase used even decades later. Jim and Marian Jordan along with writer Don Quinn split $6000 a week 3 ways at the height of the popularity of the show. Big money in the 40’s and 50’s. Especially listen to the war-time broadcasts, it was a really patriotic show beginning shortly after the Pearl Harbor attack.
