"Life with the Lyons" was a popular British radio show that aired from 1950 to 1961. The show was created by Bebe Daniels and her husband, Ben Lyon, who also starred in the series along with their two children, Richard and Barbara Lyon.
The show was a domestic sitcom that followed the daily lives and misadventures of the Lyon family, who were an American family living in London. The show was recorded in front of a live studio audience and featured a mix of comedy sketches, musical numbers, and humorous anecdotes based on the Lyon family's real-life experiences.
The show was notable for being one of the first radio programs to feature an American family living in England, and it quickly became a hit with audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. The Lyon family's charm and wit, combined with their cross-cultural experiences, made the show a relatable and entertaining experience for listeners.
Life with The Lyons was unusual in that it featured a real-life American family. Ben Lyon and his wife Bebe Daniels settled in London during the Second World War and featured with the comedian Vic Oliver in the radio series Hi, Gang! that ran from 1940 to 1949. Life With the Lyons followed on from this and, together with Ben and Bebe, featured their children Richard and Barbara Lyon. Although scripted, it expanded on real-life events. Writers on the series included Bob Block, who would later go on to create the BBC television series Rentaghost.
The success of "Life with the Lyons" led to spin-off television shows and movies, including the 1955 film "Life with the Lyons," which starred the entire Lyon family.
"Life with the Lyons" was a groundbreaking radio program that showcased the talents of the Lyon family and provided audiences with a lighthearted and entertaining look at family life in post-war Britain. Click here to read more about Life With The Lyons
