+ Harry Einstein (May 6, 1904 – November 23, 1958) was an American comedian and writer, usually known by the name Harry Einstein but was variously credited as Harry Einstein, Parkyakarkus and Nick Parkyakarkus. He was famous as the character Parkyakarkus, a pseudo-Greek character comic on the Eddie Cantor and Al Jolson radio programs. He appeared in eleven films as Parkyakarkas from 1936 to 1945. As a result of his popularity on the Cantor program, Einstein began a radio show of his own in 1943 called Meet Me at Parky's. Einstein's character, Nick Parkyakarkas, was the owner of a Greek restaurant. The scripts for the show were mainly written by Einstein himself. Sheldon Leonard, Elliott Lewis and Betty Rhodes were part of the cast, with Rhodes as the female singer as well as supporting work. Click here to read more about Meet Me At Parkys

Harry Einstein created his PARKYAKARKUS character as a boy, mimicking the Greeks who frequented his father's importing warehouse. Einstein entertained at nightclubs, and in 1932, he began appearing regularly on a Boston radio station. In 1934, Eddie Cantor caught Einstein's act, and soon Einstein was known nationally through his appearances on THE EDDIE CANTOR SHOW. He also appeared with Al Jolson in 1938. Featuring Einstein as chief cook & bottle washer of a Greek beanery. At the end of the NBC series, Einstein underwent spinal surgery to relieve chronic back pain. But the operation left him mostly paralyzed, a condition he struggled with for years. For the beginning of the Mutual series, he had to be carried into the studio, and propped up at a microphone. The series was on NBC from June 17, 1945 to April 6, 1947 and Mutual from October 19, 1947 to July 11, 1948, featuring Einstein as Nick Parkyakarkus. Joan Barton was his cashier. Also appearing on episodes were Sheldon Leonard, Frank Nelson, Ruth Perrott and Leo Cleary. Announcer is Art Gilmore. Vocalists include Betty Jane Rhodes, David Street, Peggy Lee and Patty Bolton.
