Leroy is fed up of everybody always yapping at him about what to do all the time. Gildy and Marjory tell him it is because he never does anything until he is told to do it. Leroy tells them it has become a habit and he is never allowed to do anything on his own so Gildy promises to allow Leroy a week of not being reminded what to do. In general Leroy knows what he is expected to do and now he has a week to prove it. Gildy is sceptical that Leroy will last a week.
